After obtaining a B.Sc.in Biochemistry from Cardiff University I moved to the University of Oxford for my doctoral studies in the department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics. My PhD reasearch involved studing the impact of subcellular compartmentalisation of metabolic enzymes and the effect of these processes on development. Following my PhD, I moved to Imperial College, where I undertook postdoctoral work in Tony Southall's group. During this period I studied the mechansims by which neuronal cell fates are established and maintaned and the chromatin landscapes that underpin these states. I also contributed to the development of DamID-based technologies that allowed for the interrogation of cell-specific chromatin biology in vivo. I started in the Jepson lab at the institute of Neurology in late 2021.
Research Summary
My research involves using the fly, Drosophila, to model human neurological disease. I have a particular interest in understanding how abberent gene regulation contributes to movement disorders and the epigenetic underpinnings of associated behavioural phenotypes in fly.
Teaching Summary
I have been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching throughout my scientific career and hold an advanceHE fellowship (FHEA).
