Research Summary
I am interested in the effects of ageing on the immune system. Ageing is associated with impaired immune function, or 'inflamm-ageing', as well as the development of chronic inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis, dementia and diabetes. My research focusses on the causes of inflamm-ageing, specifically whether ageing is associated with defects in the resolution phase of inflammation. Identified defects could represent novel therapeutic targets to mitigate the effects of ageing on the immune system, and potentially prevent or treat age-related inflammatory diseases.
