Dr Gillian Lachelin MA MD MB BChir FRCOG joined the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at University College Hospital in 1968 as an SHO and remained a member of the department until she retired in 2000. She was awarded a Research Fellowship at the University of California San Diego from 1974-1976. She became a Consultant at UCH from 1977 and was made Reader at UCL in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine in 1986. She became Clinical Director of the Women's Health Directorate in 1992 and was appointed to Membership of the Committee on the Safety of Medicines in 1993. Her main research interests were in Reproductive Medicine and in the hormonal background to the onset of term and preterm labour.
