Giorgos Gouzoulis is a Research Fellow at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. Currently, he is working on a theoretical and empirical framework for the analysis of modern economic rent, and a new policy agenda focused on the creation of public value via the minimising of rent extraction with Professor Mariana Mazzucato and Dr Josh Ryan-Collins. His broad research interests include Macroeconomics, International and Comparative Political Economy, Financialisation, Inequality, and the Politics of Economic Policy.

Giorgos holds a PhD in International Political Economy from King’s College London where he worked under Professor Engelbert Stockhammer. His thesis focused on the impact of financialisation on income distribution and business fluctuations since the mid-19th century through a comparative political economy approach. Part of his doctoral research was under the INET-funded project "Income Distribution, Asset Prices, and Aggregate Demand Formation, 1850-2010: A Post-Keynesian Approach to Historical Macroeconomic Data."

Between 2017 and 2019, Giorgos worked at KCL as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the undergraduate module 'Introduction to International Economics'. Prior to King’s, he taught quantitative methods at the University of Athens, Greece. Giorgos also holds an MPhil and a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Athens, Greece.
