Biography

Stelios is an architect, historian and theorist of postmodern culture. A founding editor of the Bartlett's LOBBY magazine (2013-2016), he is also a General Editor for the EAHN’s Architectural Histories since 2017. In 2008, he co-curated ATHENS by SOUND, the National Participation of Greece in the 11th Biennale of Architecture in Venice. Among others, he has published in the Journal of Architecture, Journal of Architectural Education, Architectural Design, Footprint, OASE, FRAME, San Rocco, and Metalocus. In 2018, he was a Judge for the international Undergraduate Awards, and his research on the transcultural authorship of critical regionalism was a finalist runner-up for the biannual EAHN Publication Award.

Research Summary

Stelios's research focuses on: postmodern and digital architectural cultures and imaginaries; transcultural modes of regional architectural production; provinciality and oral histories in architecture; resilience in architectural history; architectural discourse, photography, exhibitions and publications; philosophy, science, technology, storytelling and narrative (from comics and literature to videogames) in architectural histories, theories and practices.

Teaching Summary

Stelios teaches across the Architectural History & Theory modules of the BSc Architecture programme. In Years 1 and 2, he also serves as the module coordinator (with Mario Carpo and Nina Vollenbröker, respectively). In Year 3, he leads the 'Architectural Regionalisms' dissertation group.

In the BSc Architectural & Interdisciplinary Studies programme, he teaches and supervises Year 3 students' dissertations in 'Architectural Research III'. In 2019, two of his students shared the BSc Architectural & Interdisciplinary Studies History & Theory prize.

In the Master's in Architecture programme, he runs the 'Research Methods in Architectural History' workshops in Year 4, and supervises Year 5 theses. He also teaches and supervises dissertations in the MA in Architectural History programme.
