Gareth manages estates projects from the client side that help fulfil this function

Gareth plays a pivotal role in the teaching of pilot scale bioprocessing encompassing activities across undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. Gareth’s role facilitates the teaching of larger scale bioprocessing to postgraduates and the use of this in their research by providing training, guidance and experimental design input on use bioprocess equipment.

Gareth is a Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Gareth joined UCL in 2001, completing an MSc in 2002 and then a PhD in 2007 in Biochemical Engineering. Gareth was appointed a member of staff in 2007 taking on a position as a Technical Manager before progressing to the current role.

Research Summary

Gareth has an active interest in pilot scale studies of bioprocessing, particularly the larger scale verification of micro and ultra-scale work, directly participating in research and facilitating research through various training initiatives.
Gareth's specific research interests also include protein refolding, specifically, the effect of process factors upon protein refolding.

Teaching Summary
Gareth plays a pivotal role in the teaching of pilot scale bioprocessing encompassing activities across undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. He also contributes to design projects for both undergraduates and master students. He also facilitates the teaching of practicals in the pilot plant and is actively involved in the both the undergraduate pilot plant scenario and the postgraduate pilot plant week

At doctoral level Gareth is the course coordinator for the following modules that are part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Bioprocess Engineering Leadership. These provide the core training on pilot scale bioprocessing and project planning:
