Before joining the UCL Centre for Educational Leadership, I was a senior leader and English teacher in London secondary schools for ten years. Prior to teaching, I worked on education and child rights programmes in Cuba, Palestine and Lebanon.

In my role at the Institute of Education, I lead the design and delivery of school leadership development programmes for ministries of education, non-governmental organisations and international school groups as well as international consultancy projects focused on school leadership and school system improvement.

Research Groups
Research Summary

The current focus of my doctoral research is on the organizational conditions (including leadership) in schools that enable the realisation of “future-focused” curriculum principles.

I support teacher research through my facilitation of teacher research and development (R&D) programmes in England and internationally. I recently co-authored the materials for Year 2 of the UCL Early Career Teacher Consortium Professional Development Programme, for the Government Department for Education in England. Year 2 of this national teacher induction programme is underpinned by R&D principles and our materials are published here: https://www.early-career-framework.education.gov.uk/ucl/

Teaching Summary

I teach on our centre’s professional learning programmes and on our Applied Educational Leadership and Management (AEL) MA programme. Recently, I co-designed a new module for the AEL programme, Developing Personal Leadership Skills, which I lead and teach on with my colleague Karen Spence-Thomas.
