Biography

I have been involved in projects at the SSRU since May 2013 and joined the EPPI-Centre at the SSRU in August 2014. Prior to pursuing a career in academia, I had extensive experience in the commercial world, working in media and television.  I now conduct health focused systematic reviews, with topics ranging from impact of medical conditions on various demographic groups to health benefits of improved domestic services. I have recently completed my PhD on children's participation in medicines research and development. I am a qualified herbal practitioner and medical ethnobotanist.

Research Summary
My research interests generally centre on public involvement in research, medicine, public health and developing methods in evidence-based health policy-creation. I am particularly interested in research involving children and people from underrepresented communities.   My other research interests include: discourse analysis methods; research methods development; diversity; evidence mapping methods, Bakhtinian theory; intrapersonal role conflict theory; children's rights; developing methods for children's involvement in medicines research and development; interdisciplinary collaboration methods and impact of medical history awareness on personal medical decisions.
Teaching Summary

My teaching centres on qualitative research, public involvement in research (PPI) and systematic review training; teaching on method, practical skills and theory.  I currently run a MSc module that focuses on public involvement entitled Research Engagement, Participation and Impact (REPI) for the Department of Social Science.  I also teach interview methods and thematic analysis for the Doctor of Educational Psychology course and children's participation for the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Further, I supervise students completing their masters dissertations.
