Research Summary
I have currently been pursuing my PhD at UCL in IOE - the Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment. My PhD involves a mixed method research about immigrant Turkish young females’ attitudes towards learning science and their science-related career intentions. The aim of this research is to explore immigrant Turkish girls’ attitudes towards science in England and identify the differences and similarities of their attitudes and aspirations in science with their counterparts in Turkey as related to gender, socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicity, home language and parental expectations. Prior to that I completed a Master’s in Education at the same university with the dissertation titled A Case Study: The Views of Secondary Science Teachers About the Effects of Using Educational Technologies in Science Classes on Science Capital Levels of Students aiming to contribute to promoting equity in science education.
Teaching Summary
I have held science teaching positions in different regions of Turkey as soon as I graduated from Middle East Technical University the Department of Elementary Science Education. During my teaching life, I had opportunity to teach and engage refugee and minority students from various backgrounds. I participated in the project preparation and execution trainings organized by the provincial national education directorates. By organizing science fairs in schools, I created equal opportunities for students to participate in science education. After my teaching career, I was promoted to the position of researcher at the Ministry of National Education of Turkey and continued my career as an education specialist
