Biography

After studying Mathematics & Statistics at undergraduate and Master’s level at the University of Manchester, I stayed on as a support statistician and tutor in basic and intermediate statistics. During this time I took a one-year sabbatical to work on the a large collaborative study within a research team for the French national institute of medical research (INSERM). I carried out my PhD in Biostatistics & Epidemiology at UCL, where I used national administrative data to estimate risks of death and emergency re-admissions in adolescents admitted to hospital in England with violent, self-inflicted, or drug/alcohol-related injury. I joined the Health Behaviours Research group at UCL in 2016.

Research Summary

My current research involves analysing administrative datasets to identify sub-groups of cancer patients where tpathways to diagnosis may be improved. For example, sub-groups where the likelihood of multiple consultations with a doctor or of a diagnosis shortly following an emergency presentation to hospital, is disproportionately high. As a statistician I'm particularly interested in extensions to time-to-event (survival) analysis methods (e.g., to account for clustering of patients or recurrent events).
