Biography

Dr Holly Walton is a research fellow in the Department of Applied Health Research at University College London. Dr Holly Walton graduated with a BSc Psychology (Nottingham Trent University, 2014), MSc Health Psychology (University College London, 2015) and a PhD in Health Psychology(University College London, 2018). Holly’s research interests include implementation of complex interventions and health care services (in particular fidelity of delivery and engagement), development of high-quality measures to evaluate implementation, patient and staff experience of healthcare services, care coordination, behaviour change. 

Research Themes
Research Summary

Currently, Holly is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Applied Health Research. Within this role, Holly has worked on the following projects:

  • Coordinated Care of Rare Diseases (CONCORD study)
  • NIHR Rapid Service Evaluation Team:
    • COVID Oximetry@home
    • Innovations in adult social care and social work
    • Peer support social care in prisons in England and Wales
  • Prehospital triage for potential stroke patients: lessons from systems implemented in response to COVID-19 (PHOTONIC)
  • Optimising Exome Prenatal Sequencing Services (EXPRESS)


Holly's PhD research focused on evaluating the implementation of social interventions to improve independence in dementia. This research included a systematic review and the use of mixed-methods, including observational methods, qualitative methods and self-report methods.

Teaching Summary
Holly currently co-leads the MSc Population Health module: Key issues in health service delivery, policy and management.
