Hans has previously led and delivered initial teacher training within a large FE/HE setting. He has managed teams to deliver undergraduate degree programmes in subjects including Criminology, Social Justice, Law and Business pathways. Hans has taught a range of secondary school subjects including Citizenship and RE at GCSE and A-Levels in Citizenship, Politics, Sociology and Law. Hans has taught English in the UK and abroad which included development in English language teacher education. He has been a Head of Citizenship and RE in a school in Luton and Head of Citizenship and Progression in a large London FE College. Hans has also worked in the charity sector creating and developing peace educational resources, teacher training and student workshops.
Hans contributes to numerous work based and voluntary projects to promote citizenship education and citizenship Initial Teacher Education across different teaching and charitable sectors. He has previously been a staff equality and diversity representative, an FE college staff board member and a higher education institution academic staff board member. Since 2014 Hans has been a member of the Association for Citizenship Teaching Council and became Vice Chair of council in 2017. In 2018 he became co-editor of practitioner led ACT journal 'Teaching Citizenship' and in 2020 a Trustee, and 2023 Vice Chair of Trustees. After being a member of the Education Steering Group Hans become Vice Chair of the board of Directors (Trustees) of Diversity Role Models in 2022. Hans is a member of the Peace Education Network. Hans is also involved in the Council of Europe's 'Quality Education for All' framework and presented at the 'Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania' conference in November 2020. In 2021 Hans became a member of the IOE Silver Self Assessment Team for Athena Swann gender recognition, and started to provide Ethics Reviews as part of the IOE Ethics Committee. In 2022 Hans began to guest lecture on the MA Module Re-imagining Disaster Education. Hans started to review for Education, Citizenship and Social Justice journal. He became an Associate Fellow for the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education and an Associate Fellow for the Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research and a co-convenor for UCL Peace Education Special Interest Group.
In his spare time he is a keen explorer, whether that is through walking, reading, trying new food, traveling locally and abroad, learning new knowledge and skills or being involved in voluntary work.




Hans is interested in Citizenship education, peace education and disaster preparedness education and how these can link together. Hans has had work published considering the prevent duty, counter violent extremism and teaching resources. In 2021 Hans became the principal investigator of a seed funded Centre for Teacher Training Research IOE research project titled Teachers and Citizenship Knowledge working with academics from the IOE and Middlesex University as well as teacher practitioners. In 2022 Hans joined a UCL-Zhejiang University Collaborative seed funded research project titled Global Outlook and Action for Learning Sustainability.
