Research Summary

Obtaining detailed and informative images or signals from children’s brain is a major challenge in neuroscience, as children have difficulty lying still in the scanner. My research focuses on developing novel neuroimaging-based and psychophysics-based measures of visual processing in challenging populations (e.g. children, visually impaired patients).

Currently, I am working on various projects that investigate:

  • how children and adults perceive low-level statistics (e.g. spatial frequencies, contrast energy, spatial coherence) in natural or man-made scenes, using EEG.
  • how the oblique effect and visual serial dependence affect children and adults' perception, using an orientation-matching task.
  • how adults with asymmetric vision loss perform in a real-world visual search task, using Virtual Reality.
  • how to develop novel MRI-based measure of visual processing in children and patients with optic neuropathies/neuritis (e.g. Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy – LHON).
