I lead a health informatics group - KnowLab and co-lead the Clinical NLP group in Edinburgh University. I hold a PhD in Computing Science. My current research interest is in using text technologies and Knowledge Graph techniques to analyse health data. I am particularly interested in combining data driven machine learning approaches (e.g., deep learning) with knowledge driven methods (e.g., symbolic inference). I work closely with NHS Trusts and health boards across the UK to use artificial intelligence technologies in research and health service improvement (current funded projects).
