I am interested in researching young children's learning and development as it is mediated through their home learning environments, the early years workforce, pedagogy, curriculum and assessment. I am particularly interested in children and families from vulnerable backgrounds and how early education environments can help support their social mobility. I am also interested in what shapes learners' life-course trajectories over time. I enjoy studying these aspects as part of trans-disciplinary teams of researchers using complex multi-method research and analyses, which I believe can lead to more rigorous and credible inferences. Such studies have included the 17 year EPPSE study based at IoE, UCL, the E4Kids study - Melbourne University and several RCTs in the UK, Ireland and Australia which are using evidence based professional development interventions to promote workforce development and support child outcomes in disadvantaged communities.
