I completed my BA in Natural Sciences in 1998, and after three years working in science media I began as a research assistant at the Dementia Research Centre. I completed my PhD part-time in 2006 (awarded in 2007) researching imaging in Alzheimer's disease. My thesis focused on the automated segmentation of the hippocampal region of the brain - an important marker of Alzheimer's disease. Since then I have been awarded two Alzheimer's Research UK fellowships (one junior and one senior) as well as a fellowship extension as well as other grants.
I am one of the Research Department Graduate Tutors for the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease and I also server on the Athena Swan committee for the Institute of Neurology. I manage the non-clinical mentoring scheme for third year PhD students up to grade 9 staff.
I am an Associate Professor at UCL Queen Square Insitute of Neurology. My research interests include investigating imaging biomarkers of
Alzheimer’s disease including brain and hippocampal atrophy and white matter
disease. I am particularly interested in the inter-relationships between these
imaging biomarkers and Alzheimer’s pathology. Other areas of research of
interest include the effects of age, disease presentation and risk factors on
Alzheimer’s and its biomarkers. I have published nearly 80 papers and my H-index is 40 (scopus).
