I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Manchester and after working as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London I went on to gain a studentship from the Medical Research Council to study for a masters degree in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I moved on to become an assistant to a Consultant Neuropsychologist working in neurorehabilitation in both inpatient and community settings. I then completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London. After qualifying I took two part-time positions, one as a Research Psychologist at Imperial College London working on cohorts and RCTs to study dementia and mild-cognitive impairment, and as an Older Adult Specialist clinician in the Islington IAPT service. I later gained a part-time Research Fellowship from a collaboration between UCL and Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust alongside my clinical position. I gained a full-time Clinical Research Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust in 2016, and after delaying the start for a year in which I worked as a Clinical Coordinator and Research Lead for the IAPT service, this commenced in April 2017 and runs until April 2020.
My research focusses on personalising treatments for common mental disorders, particularly depression. Recently this has involved predictive modelling of treatment outcomes for people with depression and anxiety disorders, developing prognostic models to consider outcomes irrespective of treatment, and developing prescriptive algorithms which aim to help determine what types of treatment are most likely to benefit a given individual. I work as a clinician in IAPT services and my research is particularly focussed on adults seeking treatment in primary care.
I offer research supervision to a number of MSc, MSci, and D.Clin.Psy students, and clinical supervision to trainee Clinical Psychologists. I occasionally lecture on the Low Intensity IAPT training course and have run individual sessions for other courses across CEHP and the Division of Psychiatry.
