After completing his PhD, Jake joined the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, first as a Research Officer, before being promoted to Research Fellow. Jake then rejoined UCL, first as a Senior Research Fellow, before being appointed an Associate Professor in, and Deputy Director of, the Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities (CEPEO).

Jake Anders is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the UCL Centre for Education Policy and Equalising Opportunities (CEPEO). Jake's research focuses on better understanding the causes and consequences of educational inequalities, evaluating policies and programmes aiming to reduce these inequalities, and how best to do this evaluation. Jake leads the COVID Social Mobility & Opportunities study (COSMO): a major new longitudinal study funded by UKRI ESRC tracking the unequal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on a cohort of young people particularly acutely affected by the disruption that it caused. Other work includes research projects for multiple UK government departments, such as work for the Department for Education into the transition from education into work, as well as leading multiple randomised evaluations, such as Education Endowment Foundation-funded work focused on improving teachers' use of formative assessment. His doctoral research consisted of three linked studies considering aspects of socio-economic inequality in access to higher education in England, considering both the point of entry to university but also its precursors.
Jake regularly contributes to Masters-level modules across their department and faculty. Students should generally find resources for these on the relevant UCL Moodle site. Jake also regularly supervises Master's students completing dissertations with a quantitative focus, and supervises doctoral students with a focus on educational inequality and/or evaluation making use of advanced quantitative methods. Jake has supervised in partnership with the Department of Political Science and the Behavioural Insights Team as part of the UCL/BIT PhD Scholarship programme.
