Biography

  • Jane taught English in London secondary schools for more than 15 years before moving into teacher education. Before taking up her post at the IOE in 2013, she led the secondary PGCE Programme at Oxford Brookes University.
  • Her current research interests include the function of canonical literature in the National Curriculum, the teaching of Shakespeare and the use of creative practitioners in schools. She has edited Othello as part of the Cambridge Schools Shakespeare series and co-edited Richard III and Measure for Measure. In 2012 she jointly organised 'Unlearning Shakespeare' with Liam Semler from the University of Sydney, a one day symposium at Oxford Brookes focusing on the teaching of Shakespeare at school and tertiary level.
  • During 2013-14 Jane was part of a small IoE team engaged in the formal evaluation of the Globe/Deutsche Bank 'Playing Shakespeare' Project. 
  • Jane is currently part of a three year evaluation of the Ministry of Stories.
