In August 2019, I started as a Lecturer at the Institute of Health Informatics, teaching mainly on the Health Data Science and Health Data Analytics course. Since joining the institute I have published high impact articles both of relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the field of Electronic Health Records, examining adverse effects of anti-psychotic polypharmacy. co-investigator on a HDR UK Discretionary Found proposal on rare disease phenomics and a MRC Neurosciences & Mental Health Research Grant.
Before starting at the IHI I was a Post doc at the UCL Division of Psychiatry, where I was awarded the 2016 Margaret Temple grant for schizophrenia research by the British Medical Association, for a project examining rare high-risk genetic variants linked to schizophrenia, studying their impact on cognition and other biomarks associated with the disorder.
My Background is in Biology and Psychology and during my PhD education at Copenhagen University in Denmark I had several research stays; as a Marie-Curie research fellow at DeCode Genetics in Reykjavik, Iceland, and as a visiting researcher at the SGDP at the Institute of Psychiatry at Kings College London.
My research focuses on the utilisation of electronic health records and genetic data to help aid genetic discovery and better our understanding of human health and treatment. My newly established research group, the Thygesen Lab, has a focus on using longitudinal Electronic Health Record data in combination with Genetics to help analyse patient trajectories and predict disease and treatment outcome.
At the IHI I supervise PhD and MSc students on projects relevant to my research, and I am the module lead on the following modules at the Institute of Health Informatics:
And co-lead this modules
I also teach data visualisations and run yearly sessions on Genome Wide Association Study, PLINK workshop and tutorial for the Neuroscience of Mental Health module at the UCL Division of Psychiatry.
