Dr. Jen Dykxhoorn is a Senior Research Fellow within the UCL Department of Primary Care and Population Health and works with the UCL Division of Psychiatry on a NIHR-funded Public Mental Health Programme. 

She has a PhD in psychiatric epidemiology from UCL and a MSc in epidemiology from University of Ottawa (Canada). 

Dr. Dykxhoorn has also worked for several years in public health, including roles at the Public Health Agency of Canada and Mental Health Commission of Canada leading research and providingpolicy advice on mental health at the national level. 

Research Summary

Research interests include: 

  • Public mental health  
  • Social and spatial determinants of mental health 
  • Epidemiological research methods and systems modelling 
Her previous research has focused on psychotic disorders (including schizophrenia), suicide, and common mental disorders.  

Teaching Summary

Dr. Dykxhoorn lectures on core epidemiology module and epidemiology & social psychiatry within the UCL Mental Health Sciences Research MSc. She also supervises MSc and PhD dissertations focused on psychiatric epidemiology.
