Previously, I
served as a lecturer of English at universities both in China and in Singapore.
I also worked for Dow Jones & Co. (Singapore) as a research editor before.
I hold an M.Ed in TESOL (the University of Edinburgh, UK) and an M.Sc in
Conference Interpreting and Translation (Heriot-Watt University, UK).
I got my Ph.D in
Education at the University of Reading (UoR) in 2017. During the
same year, I was appointed to a position of postdoctoral
research assistant at the Institute of Education, UoR. From 2018 to 2019,
I worked as a teaching fellow in education at UoR. In Jan. 2019, I joined UCL
Institute of Education.
Apart from teaching and
doing research, between 2012 to 2014, I was also involved in, as an in-class
interpreter and event coordinator, the training provided
to the Chinese University Administrators and Officers who were on the
three months residential course ran by
the University of Reading in collaboration with China
Scholarship Council.
Personal country knowledge
China and Singapore
My PhD set out to study the multilingual education of Chinese
ethnic minority groups in China. In particular, I explored the perceptions of
and attitudes towards multilingual education from the ethnic Yi minority
students in a trilingual educational programme (home language, Mandarin Chinese
and English) at tertiary level. I was also a postdoctoral research
assistant at the 4Ps
Project “Practitioners and Parents Play Partnership” (funded by The Froebel
Trust, UK), at the University of Reading.
For details of the 4Ps
project, please visit https://research.reading.ac.uk/inedutogether/
My research interests include, but not limited to, multilingual education and multilingualism, ethnicity and education, and finally parental involvement in ethnic minority education. I welcome proposals at doctoral level which are related to those topics. I am also very keen on the development of qualitative research methodologies and research methods.
