Biography

My teaching and research are in the field of education, gender and international development. My research focuses on the relationship between violence, gender and inequalities in young people’s lives, and the role of education, with research studies in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Mozambique, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Ethiopia, Zambia and Uganda, as well as in the UK. Some of my recent projects have been in the field of research into school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) prevention and response, and a distinctive feature of the research has been innovative partnerships with colleagues working in UN agencies, governments and NGOs. I am Co-Head of Research in the Department for Education, Practice and Society at UCL Institute of Education.
