I am a clinical academic specialising in Paediatric Infectious Diseases & Immunology. I hold an NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureship, and undertake clinical work in the departments of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and research in the Infectious Diseases & Microbiology Unit at the UCL Institute of Child Health.
I studied for my PhD under Dr Jeremy Brown (UCL Division Medicine) and Dr Helen Baxendale (UCL Institute of Child Health), investigating the immunity induced through prior colonisation with Streptococcus pneumoniae on subsequent invasive disease. This led to first prizes as Young Respiratory Investigator (Royal Society of Medicine 2009) and Academy of Medical Sciences / Medical Research Council Clinician-Scientists In Training Day (2010).

We are investigating naturally-induced immunity to infections caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae. This involves dissecting the roles of antibody-mediated and cell-mediated protection, and identifying the mechanisms which determine antigen dominance during nasopharyngeal colonisation. We are also investigating the bacterial proteome during infection, aiming to develop novel approaches to diagnosis.
I am actively involved in teaching both clinicians and scientists. I lecture, examine and supervise research students on various UCL undergraduate and post-graduate courses including BMBS, MRes (Bioscience), MSc (Infection & Immunity) and medical post-graduate revision exams (MRCPCH).
