After graduating from the University of Chile in 2004, I moved to France to work with Guido Kroemer and obtained a dual PhD in 2009 from Universite Paris Sud-XI and University of Chile along with Sergio Lavandero. With them we studied calcium homeostasis, autophagy and immunology in the contexts of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Having both Guido's and Sergio's supervision shaped my scientific profile of nowadays.

I joined University College London in 2010, where I have worked until today as a research fellow. I took part in the Mitochondrial Consortium with Gyorgy Szabadkai and Michael Duchen, focusing on liver cancer models, ER stress and nuclear calcium signaling. I then joined the Hatter Cardiovascular Institute to work with Derek Yellon and Sean Davidson, with whom made important contributions in the field of exosome biology. After this, I joined my current position in the Cancer Institute, where I work with Tony Ng, who is also Head of Cancer Division at King's College London. We have many fascinating projects including the design of novel therapies for cancer, the use of exosomes for cancer early diagnosis, and multivariate analyses of clinical trials combining exosomal and immune profiling for designing rational patient stratification. I maintain collaborations with Universities in Chile, France, the UT Southwestern (TX, US), King's College London and Queen Mary's University of London. I also serve as a reviewer in several journals in the cardiovascular and extracellular vesicle fields.

Research Summary

Cell biologist working on novel pharmacological & immune therapies for the treatment of cancer and cardiovascular patients. I also focus on the early diagnosis and the mechanisms driving these two chronic diseases.
