  • Lecturer in Global Urbanism
  • UCL Urban Laboratory
  • Faculty of the Built Environment
I graduated from UCL Geography in 2009 and UCL's Development Planning Unit in 2010. After working at the New Economics Foundation (NEF) for three years I completed my PhD at the Bartlett School of Planning, UCL. I then joined Queen Mary University of London's School of Geography where I lectured in economic geography before returning to UCL to join the Urban Lab.
Research Summary

My research interests are in critical urban geography, urban political economy, and planning. More specifically, my research explores three main themes: 1) the restructuring of urban governance under conditions of austerity; 2) the financialisation of the local state, public land, and housing; and 3) the nature and dynamics of urban politics and democracy.

Current and recent research projects:

  • Democratising Social Infrastructure: The Haringey Development Vehicle (research collaboration with Dr Amy Horton, with funding from the UCL SHS Dean's Strategic Initiative, 2020-2022).
  • Revenue Generating Machines? Local Housing Companies in London (funded by the BA/Leverhulme Small Grant Award, 2019-2022).
  • Constellations of Hunger: Spatio-temporal Discourses of Urban Food Insecurity (led by Dr Nicola Livingstone, funded by the BA/Leverhulme Small Grant Award, 2018).
  • The Post-Politics of Austerity Urbanism (Doctoral research funded by the ESRC, Bartlett School of Planning, 2014-18).
