Biography

I am Professor of Media in Education at the University College London Institute of Education, based at the UCL Knowledge Lab. My research, teaching and publications are in the fields of new literacies, media education, play on and offscreen, theories of curation and agency in social media, and the changing nature of teaching and learning in the context of digital media.  I am interested in the co-production of research with children and young people and use participatory, ethnographic and multimodal research methods. I have collaborated with international academic colleagues in a number of countries, including Australia (in Melbourne with Monash University), Chile (University of Santiago), New Zealand (Waikato), Norway (Oslo and Trondheim), Finland (Tampere and Helsinki) amongst others.  Previously, I worked as a primary school teacher in Tower Hamlets, having trained as a teacher at the Institute of Education.
