Biography
I taught English for nearly 20 years in a number of schools, sixth-form colleges and FE colleges across London, before being appointed to the Institute of Education as Lecturer in English Education in 2019.
Research Summary
Before becoming an English teacher, I worked as an academic art historian at the Courtauld Institute. I have a PhD early modern Netherlandish visual culture and have published in this field.
My research interests in English education include the purposes of English, the role and value of creative writing in relation to literary texts, and assessment.
Teaching Summary
In my current role I act as a subject tutor on the English Secondary PGCE, run the Shakespeare in Education MA module, and teach on this module, the Contemporary Issues module, and the Report/Dissertation module of the English Education MA. I also co-supervise PhD theses.
