Biography

I obtained my PhD in Genetic Epidemiology in 2014 at King's College London, focusing on integrating omic level data to characterise associations between polymorphisms in nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes and clinical measures of glycaemia. After the PhD, I went to Imperial College London to create interactive data visualisation tools that enabled real-time access to unified clinical and workforce data. I joined UCL in 2015 to research subsequent events in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) through analysing large-scale linked health record data including international efforts in genetic epidemiology, biomarkers and novel “omic” studies to further understanding of subsequent CHD risk: www.genius-chd.com

Research Summary

My research is focused on evaluating the risk profile for lipids in people living with established coronary heart disease. Through the use of linked electronic health records, we are now in position to test the underlying principles that shape healthcare measures at an unprecedented scale. Current guidance on the prevention/treatment of subsequent events rests on the assumption that the pathophysiology of initial and subsequent is similar enough to approached as a single condition. With the exception of statins, lipid modification trails in people with existing CHD have not shown the same success seen for initial CHD presentation, further strengthening the need to revaluate the association in these people.
