Miss Kathryn King

Kathryn King is currently working as a Research Associate Nurse, within a NIHR funded programme of research (SUPA) aiming to develop and evaluate interventions to support uptake and adherence to antiretroviral therapy for HIV. Her role will be to deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to patients.

Kathryn graduated from the University of Aston in Birmingham, with a BSc (Hons) in Human Psychology with Professional Training in 2002. During her Undergraduate degree her clinical work included training within the Pain Management Programme at St. James’ Hospital, Leeds, collaborating with the Institute of Psychiatry, Leeds University, as well as clinical and research practice at Earls House Learning Disability Hospital, Durham. Since graduating she has worked within a diverse range of settings: including as a community-based Project worker supporting vulnerable individuals with addictive behaviours, as a Social Therapist within an Inpatient Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and as a Research Assistant within a Prostate Cancer Clinical trial (the ProtecT study).

Kathryn’s main interests are health psychology and promotion, therapeutic practice, behavioural change interventions and psycho-oncology.

Research Summary

Academically, Kathryn has integrated her interests in Counselling and Psychology, with Nursing; having qualified as a Registered Adult Nurse (PgDip) at City University in 2009. After qualifying, Kathryn practiced both clinically and academically as a Nurse, working within the areas of HIV, Oncology and Urology. She has since completed her MSc in Nursing with Distinction in 2012 and is subsequently preparing several journal articles for publication, from her MSc dissertation (distinction), which focussed upon Patient Satisfaction within the Urology Outpatient Service at UCLH.
