I am a senior post-doctoral researcher based at the UCL Institute of Child Health, Developmental Biology and Cancer – Developmental Biology of Birth Defects. Throughout my career I have worked on basic science studies directly relevant to clinically-important problems in the renal field. This has included time in laboratories based in the UK as well as the USA. My work in the US led to a patent being obtained for the development of new drugs against vascular disorders and hypertension. My main research interest has been in understanding normal and abnormal kidney development, and my current work, funded by the GOSH/ICH Biomedical Research Centre, is on novel strategies that promote normal kidney development and differentiation. This work has led to collaborative work within the Institute but also nationally and internationally. It subsequently formed a basis for the recent award of an EU FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Networks (ITN), for the appointment of an Early Stage Researcher (PhD Student) who I currently supervise. I have contributed to the development of other research projects in the laboratories, which has enabled me to work on many diverse projects. I have taught other members of the laboratory various cell and molecular techniques that they have used in their projects and most recently, I have been involved in the supervision of two MSc Students.
