Kate has worked as a lecturer in music education at UCL IOE since 2005 where she is the secondary PGCE music subject leader. Prior to taking up the her university role, Kate was Director of Music at St Marylebone School, later becoming Assistant Headteacher. Kate also became an Advanced Skills Teacher which required her to support Heads of Music across a number of inner London schools. Kate has experience teaching in both primary and secondary schools and in leading and conducting youth music ensembles. 

Since undertaking the role of secondary PGCE Music Subject Leader, Kate has taught across a range of ITE routes including the PGCE, School Direct and salaried courses. She has also undertaken a teaching role on the MA in Music Education and MTeach programmes. In addition to this, Kate has led professional learning programmes and CPD sessions for classroom music teachers in England and Wales and, more recently, has undertaken professional work with schools and universities in Sweden. Kate continues to support music teachers and teach in local schools. 

Kate's doctoral research focuses on the process of using narrative inquiry to understand experienced teachers' professional learning over time.
