Biography
I
have worked at SSRU since 2002 mainly working in the field of systematic for reviews for policy. I was awarded my PhD in 2010 for my thesis 'Shared decision-making : an evidence-based approach for supporting
children, parents and practitioners to manage chronic conditions'
Research Summary
I am based at the Evidence for Policy and Practice
Information and Coordination Centre (EPPI-Centre) where I am Deputy Director of the
Department of Health and Social Care Policy Reviews Facility. The reviews facility produces research
syntheses to address policy needs and is a
collaboration with the University of York and the London School of
Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/cms/Default.aspx?tabid=73).
I specialise in developing systematic review methods for producing policy-relevant evidence, in particular qualitative and mixed-methods evidence syntheses and approaches for identifying the key ingredients and underlying mechanisms of interventions.
My key substantive research interest is children's participation in their healthcare, in particular in relation to shared decision-making and consent. I currently hold a grant from the British Heart Foundation to conduct qualitative research with children and families about consent to heart surgery.
