I am a 2nd year PhD student of the 4-year BHF Cardiovascular Biomedicine programme (2020-2024).

Research Summary

My PhD project is on Multi-scale, deep geno-morphologic phenotyping of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy using X-ray phase contrast imaging.

Summary of BHF rotation projects undertaken in first year:

  1. The GOldmine of cardiac conduction (supervised by Profesesor Ruth C Lovering & Professor Andrew C Cook). This project involved capturing the specific roles of essential proteins that have been reported in the literature to be involved with cardiac conduction system development and/or function. Key skills involved: bioinformatics, gene annotation, Gene Ontology, literature review.
  2. Determining the roles of Brn3a and Brn3b transcription factors in heart regeneration and remodelling (supervised by Professor Vishwanie Budhram-Mahadeo). Key skills: RNA/DNA/protein extraction, cDNA synthesis, qRT-PCR, immunostaining, Western blot, cell culture, RNA-seq analysis.
  3. Cryo-imaging of mice myocardial samples using synchrotron radiation-based X-ray phase contrast imaging (supervised by Professor Andrew Cook). Key skills: synchrotron X-ray phase contrast imaging, image analysis, immunohistochemistry.
