Previously, I have worked as the Principal Researcher in the international department of the RTPI, the Global Planners Network, the Commonwealth Association of Planners, and in the National Center for Social Research working to the UK Government.

Research Summary

My research centres on the relationship between the public and government, looking across diverse stakeholders, uses of new technologies, and building knowledge in Public Decision-making. My recent publications explain 1) the value of lay knowledge to spatial planning & 2) difficulties in involving communities major renewable infrastructure. Currently I am investigating 1) Blockchain Use, and 2) Environmental Monitoring.

I work in both quantitative and qualitative research 'modes'. Since 2002, I have conducted a range of studies across public health, spatial planning, and regulatory processes. These include the AHRC-funded project on the Governance of Urban Design (that led to the establishment of the Place Alliance), an ESRC-funded project on the role of the Publics in Evidence for 'Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects', and a UKRI-funded project on Public Engagement with Scientific Research on 'Grand Challenges'.

Teaching Summary
