Biography

Research interests: Tuberculosis, plague, neglected tropical diseases, antimicrobial resistance and capacity development

I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Clinical Microbiology at UCL and have previously worked on research projects in a number of countries, including Egypt, Tanzania and Uganda. I also worked as a scientific officer on a game reserve in South Africa, tracking and monitoring the health of the animals including lions, elephants, and black and white rhino. Whilst my background is in parasitology (focusing on helminths and specifically the prevalence and control of schistosomiasis), I completed my PhD on the role of biofilms in the transmission of Yersinia pestis in fleas and lice. As a postdoctoral researcher for PANDORA, I am interested in capacity development, antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis and science communication.

Teaching Summary
During my time at UCL, I have taught a number of lectures at both Masters level and Undergraduate (medical student) level. I have also supervised students in the laboratory, from visiting A Level students through to PhD students. I have also run a number of workshops, both virtually and laboratory based, in the UK and abroad on a range of topics, including whole genome sequencing, laboratory quality management and infection prevention and control for prevention of antimicrobial resistance. I hold an ARENA teaching fellow award.
