Biography

I am currently a Lecturer in Education working across the Geography PGCE and MA Education programmes. In these roles I teach Geography Education lectures/workshops, supervise PGCE students including placement support, and contribute to the planning and structure of the course. I also lead 'What is Education?’ seminars, supervise MA Education students and support them in their essay writing and Dissertation research.

Currently I am External Examiner for the NELTA school-based training route at Beal school in Essex and for the Suffolk University SCITT programmes.  I am also supporting Curriculum Development work with schools in London.

Previously I have held responsibility for Mentoring on the Geography PGCE Programme and coordinated training events and conferences. I also initiated the Lead Geography Mentor role and Enrichment opportunities for students using wider school interests and expertise. I have also contributed to the Teach First, Schools Direct and SCITT programmes run at UCL IOE.

My background is as a Principal Lecturer at Middlesex University where I held the position of Secondary PGCE Programme Leader directing and managing the 13 subject-strong PGCE. I designed and coordinated the General Professional Studies course for the programme. In particular I built a network of Special Schools to inform and contribute to an additional third placement focusing on supporting students with SEND in the mainstream classroom.  I also led the schools’ partnership network, most significantly leading the Professional Coordinating Mentor conference, training and communication as well as overseeing Subject Mentor development. Finally, I led the Geography PGCE programme.

I have also been an Additional Ofsted Inspector for Initial Teacher Training via Tribal, acting as the Geography specialist in the inspection team.

In school I have been Assistant Head including the role of Professional Coordinating Mentor, Head of Geography, Head of Year and school Literacy Coordinator.

I have particular expertise in Geography Curriculum development, evidencing Geographical progress in the Key Stage 3 classroom, Mentor Development and Quality Assurance across programmes.  I have a network of schools I work closely with to both support and research these interests. These are used to inform the programmes I teach on, research I undertake and professional Association discussions, most notably with the Geographical Association and Royal Geographical Society.
