Biography
Lucy received a BSc in Physics (1st Class Honors) from University of Glasgow in 2016, where she gained a strong interest in photonics. She then completed an MRes at University of Cambridge as part of the UCL-Cambridge Centre for Doctoral Training in Integrated Photonic and Electronic Systems. She attained her PhD entitled "Photoconductive Metasurfaces for Terahertz Applications" from UCL in 2021. She is now an EPSRC Post Doctoral Prize Fellow at UCL.
Research Summary
Lucy Hale's research involves designing new optoelectronic devices and developing new experimental systems which can be used to investigate interesting interactions between light and materials, particularly at terahertz (THz) frequencies. This includes the development of photoconductive metasurfaces to create novel THz emitters and enhance the efficiency of THz detectors. Lucy's research also involves the development of near-field THz systems which are able to carry out THz imaging and spectroscopy beyond the diffraction limit.
Teaching Summary
Senior Postgraduate Teaching Assistant in EEE and Engineering Faculty - 1st Year Labs, Mathematical Modelling & Analysis, Engineering Challenges Courses.

Guest Lecturer in Physics & Optics of Nanostructures (Masters Course).

Lucy is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
