Dr Leonie Maria Tanczer is an Associate Professor in International Security and Emerging Technologies and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow. She is interested In the intersection points of technology, cybersecurity, and gender.
Prior to her current appointment at UCL Computer Science, Dr Tanczer was a Lecturer at UCL's Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEAPP), and before that a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the EPSRC-funded PETRAS Internet of Things (IoT) Research Hub, where she was part of the "Standards, Governance and Policy" research team.
Dr Tanczer holds a PhD from the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast. Her interdisciplinary PhD project included supervision from both social sciences and engineering and focused on the (in)securitisation of hacking and hacktivism. She studied Political Science (BA) at the University of Vienna and the University of Limerick (Republic of Ireland) and Political Psychology (MSc) at Queen's University Belfast.


Dr Tanczer is researching, teaching, and publishing on a wide array of Internet-related topics ranging from technology-facilitated abuse (tech abuse), hacking and hacktivism, to censorship and surveillance.
