For my PhD project, I am developing a Core Outcome Set of Relationships and Sex Education for students with intellectual disability. This involves finding out “what” students with intellectual disability, parents, teachers, policy makers and researchers think important outcomes of this education should be and then asking the stakeholders to agree on the most important outcomes. I hope that by having a list of outcomes researchers and schools will be able to develop effective Relationships and Sex Education for students with intellectual disability and by involving the views of students with intellectual disability on important outcomes this education will reflect their needs and concerns.
Prior to my PhD studies, I worked with children and adults with intellectual disability and/or mental health problems in clinical mental health services and research settings. For example, I worked in a forensic mental health hospital for young men with intellectual disability, early intervention in psychosis service and research projects for people with intellectual disability and/or mental health problems.
I am interested in research focusing on education, psychology, mental and physical health for people with intellectual disability and those who support them and also improving co-production with this population in research settings.
