I am a Lecturer in Education at UCL Institute of Education, based in the Department of Learning and Leadership.

Prior to joining UCL IOE, I taught in schools in East London, rural Sweden and Spain and was a lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London. I managed a UK government funded research project in my last job in a primary school; the ICT Test Bed project, where I had a particular interest in developing home-community links.

I initially trained as a primary teacher because of my interest in the connections between subjects and how to include and develop children's own interests and experiences in class, this continues to shape both my academic and teaching interests.

Research Summary

I have an MA in ICT in Education and an ongoing research interest in digital media production with young children.

Research projects at UCL IOE have included:

The Stories of Our Place - cultural heritage and local narratives in the primary classroom

Project exploring history teaching in the primary classroom, collaboration with Dr Andrew Flinn, UCL, Information Services, and Early Career teachers. The project developed resources to connect local voices and stories with the wider historical context. Engaging directly with history and history-making via oral history techniques, photographs and other items from home, as well as making use of online archival materials.

Future Forward: Reimagining self and space through digital photography and mobile technology
Part of the UCL Spark Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology at the new UCL East site in the Olympic Park. Puppet making, mobile trail and augmented reality activities enabled participants to explore future versions of themselves who could be taken to explore the park. Participants discovered existing stories from the area and made and recorded new ones along the way. A gallery exhibition of images created during the workshops was displayed on site at the View Tube community studio space.

Teaching Summary

My current teaching role is within the Primary PGCE programme, with a specialist interest in Digital Media and cross curricular learning. I teach on the Computing and Science components of the Professional Practice Module, as well as supervising student teachers in school.

I was a UCL Connected Curriculum Fellow 2015-16 and continue to explore ways to develop students' learning as partners in a research community.
