Biography
Undergraduate Mathematics (Part III), Cambridge, 1983; D. Phil (Oxford), 1987. I then held a Junior Research Fellowship at Merton College, Oxford, and was Darby Fellow of Mathematics at Lincoln College, Oxford. I held an Advanced Fellowship and Lectureship at the University of Edinburgh from 1994, rose through the ranks, and was Head of School from 2006 to 2011.
I joined UCL in January 2013, and am currently director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Geometry and Number Theory (also known as the London School of Geometry and Number Theory).
Research Summary
I am a differential geometer with interests in the PDE end of the subject. Current research projects include Bergman kernels and metrics of constant scalar curvature in Kaehler geometry, hyperKaehler metrics, and monopole moduli spaces. My current (2014) collaborators include Joel Fine (ULB), Chris Kottke (Northeastern), Jason Lotay (UCL), Richard Melrose (MIT), Julius Ross (Cambridge), and Andras Vasy (Stanford).
Teaching Summary
I have taught many topics over the years: in Autumn 2014 I shall be teaching a third-year course on mathematical aspects of general relativity and contributing to a graduate course on bundles over curves for the London School of Geometry and Number Theory.
