Research Summary
My main research interests focus on social, environmental, behavioural, genetic and psychosocial determinants of chronic diseases and well-being in Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. in societies undergoing rapid social change. To study these phenomena, we have established a large population-based cohort study in Russia, Poland, Lithuania and Czech Republic, with approximately 35,000 participants (men and women) aged 45-69 years at baseline. The cohorts were first examined in 2002-2005 and re-examined in 2006-2008. Participants are prospectively followed up for mortality and cardiovascular morbidity.
Teaching Summary
I have designed, taught, coordinated and/or led a number of teaching modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level: - Society and Individual (Year 1-2 of the MBBS curriculum) - Clinical Epidemiology (Year 3 of the MBBS curriculum) - Public Health (Year 4 of the MBBS curriculum) - Epidemiology, Statistics and Social Epidemiology (MSc Health and Society: Social Epidemiology) - a number of short courses / summer schools in epidemiology, public health and social determinants of health.
