I obtained a BSc. in Applied Physics from the University of Limerick and subsequently went to Imperial College London and joined Prof. Jo Hajnal's MR physics group at Hammersmith Hospital where I obtained a Ph.D. in image reconstruction of under-sampled data.
I am a Professor and Head of the Physics Group at The Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging (WTCN). My work focuses on microstructural imaging of the human brain to better understand it's structural and functional organisation. One important approach for achieving this is through generating functional and anatomical biomarkers, e.g. using quantitative imaging to characterise tissue microstructure by acquiring quantitative measures that reflect tissue properties such as myelination and iron levels. This information helps us to further our understanding of both healthy neuro-anatomy and pathology.
I coordinate and teach on the Physics for SPM users short course run by the Physics Group at WCHN.
I am a module convenor, course committee member, tutor and lecturer on the MSc. in Advanced Neuroimaging offered by the Institute of Neurology at UCL.
