Prof Martyn Caplin leads The Royal Free London “European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society’s
Centre of Excellence”. Furthermore, he leads scientific and clinical research
programmes into neuroendocrine tumours. In addition to being the Chairman ENETS
(2014-2016) and Vice-Chairman (2016-2018), he has been with ENETS since
its foundation in 2004 also serving as its Scientific Secretary. He is currently the chair of the EU European Reference Network for Rare Cancers Neuroendocrine Tumour Committee as part of EURACAN. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UK
& Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (UKI NETS) in recognition of his
clinical leadership and research in the field of NETs. He is a founder and
Past-Chairman of the UK & Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society. 2006-2014
he was a member of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Upper-G.I.
Cancer Committee and he is a Past-Chairman of the NCRI Neuroendocrine Tumour
group. He has published over 200 peer review papers, written multiple book
chapters and co-authored two books. He regularly lectures both nationally and
internationally. 2006-2012 he was the clinical lead for “NHS Evidence” for
Gastroenterology and Liver diseases (under the auspices of NICE), chairing
annual evidence updates into gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
