Education: PPE (mostly economics and statistics) in Oxford 1961-4 and then Town Planning at UCL 1964-6. Employed in Nathaniel Lichfield and Associates and in that capacity worked on the Milton Keynes Master Plan, other new settlements, retail schemes and cost benefit analysis. Joined the UCL staff in 1969. The 2008 date above is misleading: a few weeks after "retirement" I was re-employed.

Works on relationship between property markets and planning, mainly in UK and Europe. Active on London planning, most recently supporting community groups in challenges to successive London Plans (supported by UCL Public Engagement Unit)

Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship focused on the land and housing crisis in the UK, working with Bob Colenutt (University of Northampton). This work led to a major report on the prospects for housing, land and rents in UK cities, part of the Foresight Future of Cities programme of the Government Office for Science.

benvgEPA: masters module on similarities and differences in the planning practices to be found across Europe, taught with Elena Besussi and with contributions from Claire Colomb and others.
urbng007: masters module on citizen participation in Metropolitan Planning, joint with Jennifer Robinson (UCL Geography) and with Richard Lee and others in the JustSpace network. Builds on experience challenging the London Plan and supporting community action at various geographic scales.
