I have been active as an academic in the field of Scandinavian and Baltic studies since 2007. I completed my PhD dissertation at University of Tartu, Estonia, in 2014, and joined UCL in 2015. My position is a split one with 0.5 FTE in Scandinavian Studies and 0.5 FTE in European Social and Political Studies (ESPS).
My primary research focus is on 20th century Scandinavian and Baltic political history, with a particular interest in inter-Nordic and inter-regional contacts and cooperation in the Baltic Sea area. I am also interested in contemporary European, Scandinavian and Baltic politics (especially foreign and security policy).
I also have an academic side-interest in Medieval Old Norse-Icelandic literature and culture.
Most of my teaching concerns 20th century European political history, especially the history of Scandinavian and Baltic politics, society, and culture. In past, I have also taught modules relating to Medieval Studies, including overview courses in Old Norse literature, and various other subejcts in the field of Scandinavian culture, history, literature and languages.
