Martin de Jode originally trained as a physicist, specializing in lasers and optics. After completing a PhD in nonlinear optics at the University of Essex, he worked for eight years as a Research Assistant in the Photodynamic Therapy research group at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL.
He moved into IT in 2000 after taking a MSc in Object Oriented Software Systems from City University and has subsequently held a number of developer and consultancy positions, mainly focusing on mobile application development.
He joined CASA as a Research Associate in September 2009 to work on the 'Tales of Things and Electronic Memory' (TOTeM) project investigating the tagging of everyday objects using 2D bar codes and RFID tags. He developed the Tales of Things iPhone and Android apps which are available from the respective App Stores. Subsequently he worked on the EPSRC-funded 'Internet of Second-Hand Things' project and the 'Creating and Exploring Digital Empathy' (CEDE) project.
He is currently Lecturer in Connected Environments at CASA.
His research interests include physical, mobile and ubiquitous computing, the Internet of Things and sensing the environment
