Biography

My areas of interest centre around learning and teaching mathematics at secondary and early university level across a wide range of courses and levels of specialism. I am particularly interested in the interplay between affect (emotion) and cognition and have written on learners with special needs participation in mathematics and also those with high attainment choosing to do mathematics. A related area of interest is teaching mathematics and how a teacher's mathematical and pedagogical knowledge are intertwined and how their affect enhances or inhibits their performance and experience as a teacher.  My favourite branch of mathematics is geometry (in which I specialised for my Masters degree) and I am active both in teaching and researching the teaching of geometry. Over the 'Covid period' 2020-2021 I have been working with material from PostGraduate Research Students from the London School of Geometry and Number Theory to make art works, the online exhibition is at https://art2021lsgnt.weebly.com/.
