Biography

Renata has worked in cross-disciplinary projects in South and North America, Europe and Africa.  Currently, she is the conservation lead of the ‘Olduvai Geochronology Archaeology Project (OGAP), a cross-disciplinary project in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. She is also the principal of investigator of  the research project‘Fibres of Resistance: Tikuna barkcloth and identity in the Amazon’.

Research Summary

Renata has a special interest in the ethics and impacts of conservation, public outreach, archaeological conservation and the conservation of material originating from South American indigenous groups. Renata leads 'Conservation and Development', a research network focused on conservation's impact in social and political arenas. Her research focuses on collections originating from indigenous nations from the Americas, but she also has extensive experience with archaeological conservation.  


Teaching Summary

Renata has taught different subjects to students of different ages and backgrounds. As a follower of Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy, her main purpose as an educator is to help students think critically and creatively so as to enable them to fulfil their potentials and aspirations.
